Granny
Ranch
The Granny Ranch is a place of healing that promotes
and celebrates spiritual growth & wisdom. Its intent is to create
and share resources which offer comfort and inspiration for the
healing journey, endeavoring to honour the sacred interconnection
between the spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical dimensions
of health. Karen Scott Barss, is a Registered Psychiatric Nurse,
Educator, Author and Singer/Songwriter who has written and presented
on the topic of healing from a personal and professional perspective
in a variety of forums.
Healing Images: Reflections on a Healing
Journey
Karen shares her personal experiences with breast cancer and the
ensuing journey on which she and her close ones found themselves.
As a Registered Psychiatric nurse and educator, she had already
witnessed the pain of others who were not only traumatized by illness,
abuse or loss but were dramatically debilitated by an ongoing lack
of support and validation for their pain. Diagnosed with cancer,
Karen discovered those experiences first hand. For a considerable
time following cancer treatment she was unable to articulate even
to herself the overwhelming devastation and confusion she felt in
response to the diagnosis of breast cancer. As time went on, Karen
"discovered her voice" as she puts it and part of the
result is this beautiful book.
It is written in a very light style, with text
that's thoughtfully large and deliberately spaced out and partitioned
into bite sized pieces that make it easy to use for comfort, meditation,
journaling or sharing with close ones.
You WILL cry but....believe it or not....you
Will laugh. Karen shares her emotional rollercoaster in a very unique
and caring way. Though I've read the book cover-to-cover many times,
I find myself realizing this book is for everybody who is looking
for comfort and understanding. As Karen aptly puts it .... "it
is not a given that we will figure out things on our own; we need
each other's support and insight."
